Five: Adobe InCopy
I was honoured to have artwork from this short film be part of the 2021 Adobe Creative Cloud as the Splash Screen for Adobe Incopy.

'Five' is a colourful typographic romp through the five senses. The experimental and playful animation of freelance 3D artist and motion designer Sebastian Helene combines with characterful and quirky sound design by London based studio Resonate.

When coming up with the concept for Five Sebastian wanted to work with limitation to come up with fresh new ideas. By only allowing himself to work with letters from the five senses to come up with ideas it sparked some unexpected but exciting results

See
The See section was all about playing with perception, one moment you are seeing mirrored angles of a letter, the next moment a letter is revealed to you from under a cloth, then you find yourself looking at a dizzying amount of letters all spinning in different directions and with some visuals purposefully not lining up.
Hear
How do you visualise hearing something? I decided to represent the act of hearing by having letters be drawn to a source, almost like they are incoming sounds. The ground they move on also undulates reminiscent of the way sound interacts with water. Accompanying the letters are furry spheres, a visual nod at microphone wind muffs.
Smell
The smell section was a great opportunity to play with the idea of visually representing things invisible to the naked eye, such as pollen or fragrant perfumes.

Touch
This section was all about getting the letters close and comfortable, squishing and cramming them, a big group hug!
Taste
Taste derives from the tongue, so it only makes sense to have a letter lick other letters right? Making the letters look kind of deep fried is a bonus.
2d Sections
As the film is about multiple senses, it made sense to have multiple styles of animation, both 2D and 3D. Sebastian opted to have each sense be introduced by a typographic title screen where all the letters found within that sense would animate in a way which represents it.

Early Development
Here is a look at some early sketches and typographic explorations, everything starts as a sketch:
